Biserica Evanghelică, aflată în centrul orașului Bistrița, este un monument de arhitectură reprezentativ pentru tranziția de la stilul gotic la cel al Renașterii în Transilvania.
Cu o înălțime de 75 m, se află pe locul al 5-lea între bisericile din România. Turnul ei este însă cel mai înalt turn medieval din țară, deoarece singura biserică medievală dintre cele patru care o întrec în înălțime - cea de la Cluj - are turnul din epoca modernă.
Biserica a trecut prin două mari incendii, în 1857 când a ars turnul și a fost distrus acoperișul și ceasul turnului, și in 2008 când acoperișul turnului și trei din turnurile mici, care reprezentau dreptul de judecată al orașului, s-au prăbușit; dar acum este refăcută complet.

The Evangelical Church, that is situated in the center of Bistri’a, is an architectural monument representative for the transition from the gothic style to the renaissance style in Transilvania.
With a height of 75 m, it ranks 5th between the churches of Romania. But it’s tower is the tallest medieval tower from the country, because the only medieval church from the 4 that compete at height, the one from Cluj, has the tower from the modern era.
The church went through 2 big fires, one in 1857 when the tower burned and the roof and clock of the tower were destroyed, and the other one in 2008 when the roof of the tower and three of the little towers, which represented the right to judgement of the medieval city, collapsed; but now it’s completely recovered.
