Geocache Description:

A scenic new path linking West Lothian to the Pentland Hills has been opened. From Selm Muir Wood to Little Vantage. Running from Selm Muir Road, near Kirknewton, to the Little Vantage car park, off the A70, the new two-mile path re-opens an old livestock drovers’ route and creates a gateway for The Cauldstane Slap and on to The Pentland Hills.

Selm Muir Wood to Little Vantage - Gogar Burn Spring

The name of Gogar first appears in a clearly datable context in 1233.[3] The etymology is uncertain.[4] It may be derived from "cog" or "gowk", an Old Lowland Scots term for cuckoo, a bird with known ritual significance in ancient times, or from the Brythonic term for red, "coch" (cf "Red Heughs" in the vicinity).
Coming from Selm Muir Wood the path passes around to the right through the farm. The owners Lesley and Stewart have given permission to place this cache here and the others on and near the New Path. They are aware of Geocaching and have had Geocachers stay at the farm. Parking is allowed here if not to busy for this cache and the others on the Selm Muir Wood to Little Vantage path but if you intend to collect the Selm Muir Wood series please park at the given parking coords. Please keep dogs under control there are livestock in the fields where the path passes through. From Hilly Cow take the second gate past the house and follow the way posts going to Little Vantage. The path can be muddy.

There is no need to climb over fences.
