The traffic circle at 8th Street & Circle Drive earned the reputation of being 'Saskatoon's most dangerous intersection.' Constructed in a European style in 1969 to aid in moving the ever-increasing traffic more efficiently, some drivers loved it, while others went out of their way to avoid it. It was a 2-lane circle with the inner lane having the right of way which led to confusion for many. Complaints and debates at city council led to the dismantling of the traffic circle in the summer of 1988. It was replaced with lights at a diamond intersection with plans for an overpass, which was constructed in 1999.
