Choose the Ouse Traditional Cache

This cache has been archived.

Inuksuuk: We had a beautiful canoe ride up the Ouse in perfect calm and it's already November. We brought the chainsaw and did use it once but someone else had already been up in here with a chainsaw to clear a path through the first downed tree. Despite how much we enjoyed paddling up in this area, we decided to just archive the caches north of the bridge, and pick up our containers. It's always an obstacle course in here with fallen trees and then strong current in springtime. We just decided we didn't want to do maintenance up in here. That's not to say that we won't come back and paddle in here, just for fun. But we are not going to place geocaches in this section anytime soon.

Geocache Description:

Welcome to our Ouse River geocaches.

The Ouse River oozes its way from the Norwood Pond and dumps into Rice Lake. This 1.5 kilometre stretch is a lovely canoe or kayak paddle especially in the autumn with the trees changing colour. This geocache is just north of the bridge (put-in) and is very easy to spot since not many people ever come this way. It is possible to continue canoeing north on the Ouse, but you will encounter tree debris that makes for some pull-overs which might not be very appealing. That is why I did not place any more caches any further north from here. There are a lot of beavers in this area that become active in the evening. We placed this cache in the pitch dark with beavers swimming around slapping their tails at us.

Regarding Parking on River Road : The parking co-ords I give you are for where you can put your canoe or kayak into the water. As for leaving your vehicle, there are better pull-over spots on the west side of the bridge.
