Geocache Description:

This rather impressive building with its castle like design is now a care home for the elderly but don't let its grand appearance fool you as it holds a bit of a darker past...

Persley castle was originally built as a Laird's House back in 1769 with additions made around 1840/50. The pepper pot turrets and raised battlemented central sections stand out prominently. At one point the building was known as the Barracks and was used to house children who were the sweatshop labour in the calico printing business, which formed part of the Woodside Cotton Works.
