Geocache Description:

In November the LEC event sees us venture into Banstead Woods.  Banstead Woods has an interesting past, that is unknown by many.

Park Farm, just up the road from the car park, was used as a base by the Canadian Army at the start of World War 2. By 1941 the Canadian's had gone and the camp was used to house Italian and German prisoners of war. Nowadays Park Farm is a Scout camp. (see reference point)

During the blitz hundreds of bombs were dropped over the local area, with thirteen bombs dropped in or around the woods, so keep your eyes out for the bomb holes!

Whille the Canadian's occupied the woods they built tracks to drive their tanks, created from the rubble after the blitz. These rubble tracks still exist today (see reference point )

There's a tree in the woods that has always interested me. It has lots of dates carved into it. Despite lots of research I've never been able to find out anything about it. Some of the dates are from the 40s and 50s (see reference point)

The meeting point is at a nice view overlooking Chipstead. Please feel free any travelbugs, large or small. Ample parking available. The paths in the woods can be a little muddy and uneven, so leave your stilettos at home.

The League Of Extraordinary Cachers (LEC) was formed in 2015 by individual geocachers who decided to form a group, so they could share geocaching adventures and promote geocaching far and wide. The LEC welcomes everybody, whether you've found 1 or 10,000 caches, or you just want to know what geocaching is all about! You'll be made to feel very welcome.
