Before cars, roads were much narrower, only needing to be wide enough for 2 horse drawn carriages to move past one another. Streets were bustling places filled with people. Then came the industrial revolution, which, with a number of other factors, brought with it a change in town planning to be centered on the automobile. Streets became highways to link a decentralized town planning system split into distinct zones, Industrial, Commercial and Residential.
Streets are not as safe as they once were and road safety is very important, so teach children a safe way to cross. Always check for cars before crossing.
