Geocache Description:

The USAF T-33A training jet (tail number 55-4402) was just an hour out of Stewart Airfield on a training mission November 1st, 1962 when Lt.Colonel Carl Colson and Captain Russell Johansen lost control and crashed on the shoulder of Van Wyck mountain in the Catskills. Both pilots died in the crash.

Out of respect for the tragedy that happened here this cache is placed near the crash site, not at the site. It is a steep bushwhack of less than a mile most of the way. There are several parking areas along Peekamoose Road, Rt 42. Best choice is based on where you can cross Roundout Creek, depending on the water level.
