On 11/5/77 a Piper PA-23 Aztec crashed on the side of Van Wyck Mountain. The pilot had been warned that VFR flight was not recommended. The 5 people on board died in the crash. There is a memorial plaque on a nearby tree with the names and ages of the occupants.
This is usually best accessed from Peekamoose Road. The beginning of this hike is quite steep, then the bushwhack is across a wide ledge/ridge of hardwoods. Wear bright clothing in hunting season.
In respect for the tragedy which occured here the cache is not at the crash site but nearby.
