I Got Carried Away Traditional Cache

This cache has been archived.

R-bow: Per requirements for caches in these parks, the cache must be archived after three years to prevent permanent trails being made by cachers in search of the cache. This original cache container was a huge acorn from out west which was called a "widow maker" because if it hit you on the head it could cause great damage. Workers in those forests wore hard hats at all times. Unfortunately the container did not stay there long. Maybe a REALLY hungry squirrel? Thanks to all of the finders!! I'll look for another fun location.

Geocache Description:

This is number 15 in the "Way" series.  As promised, each cache is a different container.  I liked this one!!

This cache container came all the way from California in 2015.  It is a Coulter Pinecone.  In it's infancy when still on the pine tree, it is called a "widow maker"  You'll understand when you see the size of this baby.

The cache can be accessed from the OLD Blue Trail in Green Lane Park.  When you come to the directional arrows from the designated parking lot, take the path into the woods and not the mowed trail that goes around and up onto the ridge.  That portion of the Blue Trail is closed during winter.   Once you reach GZ, there will be no PI or bushwhacking.  Please rehide carefully and beware of muggles.  BYOP.

Hope this cache lasts awhile so everyone can be amazed like I was!  It is still pretty prickely but has mellowed some.

Permission for this geocache has been granted by Montgomery Department of Parks.
