Geocache Description:

Two bridges span the South Esk River where it meets the Tamar River: the picturesque Kings Bridge; and the more modern concrete structure of the West Tamar Highway.

The Kings Bridge is of wrought iron arch construction with a span of 60 metres.  Fabricated in England, it was shipped to Launceston where it was assembled on a pontoon, floated into position and then lowered onto its abutments on the receding tide.  It was officially opened in 1864.

Whilst the modern concrete bridge now bypasses the Kings Bridge, the latter remains in service providing access to the suburb of Trevallyn.

The cache is located on the connecting walkway between these two South Esk spans.  Cache is quite small with limited room for swaps, byo pen..
