Geocache Description:

Should be a quick find IF there are no muggles about - that's highly likely at many times though.

A great and very popular spot for taking a photo with John and Maureen. Mark Rode, a sculptor based in Killasser, Swinford, Co Mayo, created the bronze figures, which were unveiled in October 2013.

Made in 1951, “The Quiet Man” was directed by John Ford and starred John Wayne as Sean Thornton returning to settle down in Ireland after emigrating to the US. Maureen O’Hara played Mary Kate Danaher, the girl he marries. Cong is famous for having been the backdrop to The Quiet Man with many scenes being filmed here in the village and in the grounds of Ashford Castle and Connemara.Cong has attracted many visitors and fans of the film and has an annual Quiet Man festival to celebrate the town’s connection with the film. There is a Quiet Man museum in the village too.

The real star of the 'Quiet Man' was "majestic Ireland", according to actress Maureen O'Hara at the time the sculpture was unveiled and surely majestic Ireland can be seen and felt in the environs of Cong.

An icon of Hollywood's Golden Age, at the height of her career Maureen O'Hara was considered one of the world's most beautiful women. She is often remembered for her onscreen chemistry with John Wayne. They made five films together between 1948 and 1972: Rio Grande, The Quiet Man, The Wings of Eagles, McLintock! and Big Jake.

Enjoy a wander around the village or a walk in the woods beyond the church, a little more caching perhaps? Or maybe a well deserved pint afterwards or a bite to eat, there are a few nice places :)

Extreme stealth will be required!!
