Geocache Description:

The 1956 Film “Smiley” was a British production but apart from (Sir) Ralph Richardson the cast was Australian.Actors such as Chips Rafferty,  Charles ‘Bud” Tingwall,  and Colin Peterson (Smiley) starred in the film.  Leonard Teale also had a few lines.

It was filmed around  Sydney, Camden, Gundy and  Rossgole near Scone.

Several scenes, including the opening christening scene of  Smiley William Thomas Grivvens,  were filmed at  St Jeromes Anglican Church in Cawdor.

Several scenes involving the minister (Richardson) were filmed  on the bottom end of Old Razorback Road.

The small weatherboard St James (or St Jerome's) Anglican Church was built in 1880. It has a steeply pitched gabled roof clad with fibrous cement tiles. Small crosses mark the top of each gable and a small entry porch is located on the north elevation. Lancet headed windows feature on the side (nave) and end walls.

Adjacent to the church is Cawdor Public School which  was established in 1858. In 2008 celebrated 150 years and i is located in the heart of the Cowpastures and at the site of one of the earliest European settlements on the west of the Nepean River. The school and its students and teachers have seen many changes over the years. Travellers now pass further east of Cawdor as progress has demanded improved roads, such as freeways. A few years ago the gruelling Razorback Fun Run passed across the gates of the school. The original road is not as busy as it was many years ago. However, it is a drive back in time as one travels up and over the Razorback Range. Cawdor Public School is nestled in the foothills of Razorback.

The cache could not be put in its intended position due to the closure of the gates . however has been positioned nearby so that cachers  can  still get a full view of the church and school. Why not take a photo of this small church , school and the nearby Razorback Range.

The cache is a small magnetic canister, pencil required.
