Debbie the polar bear was the last polar bear the Assiniboine Park Zoo had before the opening of Journey to Churchill. She was born in 1966 and passed away in 2008. She made the Guiness Book of World Records for being the oldest polar bear alive at the time, and for her achievement in having multiple offspring throughout her lifetime. Her former residence has been transformed into a rescue area for orphaned polar bear cubs around Churchill, and is a part of the Leatherdale International Polar Bear Conservation Centre that opened in 2012.
