Kincaid Park is a wonderful large park on the southwest corner of Anchorage, but the phone reception is often non-existent and even GPSr often have trouble with the woods, hills, radar and kryptonite. Moose rule the park but allow people to visit if they give them wide room and respect. Remember the park gate is locked 10:00 PM to 10:00 AM.
As you surely remember your biology studies, xylem and phloem make up the trunk and branches of trees. Xylem brings the water up from the roots to the leaves, where photosynthesis makes sugars and sends some down the phloem to feed the rest of the tree. A lot more water goes up than sugars come down, so xylem is most of the wood and phloem is just a small layer inside the bark.
Heartwood is just old xylem (sapwood) that has died and now just adds to the structure but no longer serves as a conduit.
The previous cache in this area was
