Geocache Description:

The approach is on a sandy, somewhat rough road. Most vehicles should be OK, or it's a short hike from the main road. Cache is on Arizona State Trust Land, and a Permit is required for access. Application forms are available on the internet.

As you search for caches in the desert, you will undoubtedly encounter this critter, which you may more commonly know as packrat, or at least have seen it's nest, called a midden. Those cholla balls that pounce upon us and drive us crazy provide food and nest material to these desert denizens. After they eat the pulp of the cholla, they arrange the skeletons to guard their nest entrance. They will make their nests from whatever is available, including dung.....YUK! They will eat practically anything, including PLASTIC! Insulation on car wiring is considered a delicacy. They LOVE plastic film canisters and pill bottles, so when your cache container of plastic disappears, or shows multiple tooth marks, you may have helped this critter survive. I've never tasted these containers myself and hope I never have to before starving to death in the desert. This cache container is NOT EDIBLE, though the contents could be....if you are a Neotoma!
