Geocache Description:

A nice and easy find on the border of the recreation park.

Goin’ t’ rec’ #2… Newstead Colliery

When we were little we did not have the distraction of games consoles and things that kept us indoors and, although the such was available in the form of a Sinclair Spectrum or the old Atari console, these systems were used very seldomly and mainly on very rainy days which meant most of the time was spent outdoors.

The local recreation parks were a popular choice in which to spend time with friends kicking a football about or enjoying other park facilities and were places where you felt safe, part of the community and enjoy time spent with friends both old and new.

Kids were regularly heard by parents and friends saying “Gooin darn t’ rec” on weekends and school holidays and this series highlights such places.

The cache container you are looking for is a homemade camouflaged micro therefore you will need to bring your own pen.

Parking is available at the supplied waypoint and, in addition to parking for this cache, it is an ideal parking area for exploring the nearby Annesley lakes nature reserve as well as an excellent place to link up with BenandJules excellent NAC (Newstead Abbey Circular) series which we have completed and is well worth doing!

Also, due to the location of the hide, please be aware of people enjoying the facilities at the park where kids are often playing and dog walkers are commonplace thus increasing the potential of being muggled when searching for the caches and signing the logs. This cache is also overlooked by an industrial company so beware of lurking workers!

As the cache involves a short walk alongside a playing field, conditions may become boggy during bad weather meaning taking pushchairs and wheelchairs could become quite hard going so consider this before planning to take either. Wheelchair users would need assistance in retrieving the cache.

We hope you enjoy searching for this cache and request that the cache is left nicely sealed and as found and well hidden so that it does not get spotted by non-cachers.

We hope you enjoy the cache

&

Happy Caching!
