Geocache Description:

BiH

This unique geomorphological phenomenon, was created in long series of years. With erosion of the soil and under influence of aggressive frost compound, summer heat, rain and strong winds, interesting shape figures have been made. Their shape and composition remind of those in Colorado (USA) or Dolomites (Italy).
Sand piramids are mentioned for the first time in Austro - Hungarian period, and by some claims they are over 200 years old.
The erosion process lasts until today, so they do not disappear but grow up.
According to geologists Sjefudin Vrabec dealing with this natural phenomenon, in the area of Miljevina, in the area, which is known for the deposit of brown coal, oil in the roof appeared sediments that are really classic sediment composed of clays and conglomerates. Erosion of these sediments, clay is subject to erosion processes, created phenomena, so-called pyramids that are represented in the eastern part of the Miljevina basin, explained Vrabec. He added that the conglomerates resistant rocks and they protect that area of intense erosion process and the clay are being carried away. Although no pyramidal shape, striated sand poles rise from its broad foundation and narrow toward the top, and thus make an outstanding geomorphological uniqueness on these areas.
