This is a night cache placed here at Beachwood state park, home of a former girl scout camp. There are many abandoned buildings and structures hidden throughout the park.
A Dark And Eerie Night
While exploring this park one evening, I discovered a trail of green reflective tacks high in the trees. As the sun set and the sky grew dark, I followed the trail until I came upon an old abandoned building. As I approached the thresh hold, a cold chill began to creep up my spine. The room before me was dark and eerie. Long shadows cast across the graffiti covered walls from the moonlight filtering in through broken windows. I cautiously stepped inside. The room smelled of old, dusty, dry, wood. A strong breeze blew past me into the room. I shined my flashlight around the room, studying the peeling paint, graffitied walls, broken glass and crumbling drywall. There was an uneasy feeling emanating from the room. Then I heard footsteps behind me. I turned around and saw the door slam shut before me! I ran for the door and tried to escape, but it wouldn't budge. I heard the floorboards creek as if the whole room was being twisted and squeezed and watched the shadows gather in the corner of the room. I turned my light to the corner and caught a glimpse of something reflecting off the wall. I was terrified, but felt compelled to investigate the source of the reflection. I walked to the corner and spotted a geocache! Before I could open the box, I felt a blow hit me on the back of the neck and everything went black.
When I woke up, it was morning. I looked around for the building, but there was no sign of it. I wondered if I had dreamt it, but the throbbing headache and pain in the back of my neck was proof enough for me that I hadn't.
Still to this day many questions remain unanswered and I've yet to find that cache. Was it just a dream? What spirit haunts that old building? Who left behind that trail? Will you be the first to find it? or... Will you be the last!!!
TO FIND THIS CACHE
Follow a set of "green" reflective trail markers. A little ways down the trail you may discover another set of trail markers. This trail leads off to another night cache nearby. Stay on the green trail if you're brave enough. A single marker means: continue down the trail. Double markers means: turn off the trail. If you get lost, the next marker should be seen not far from the last (about 50' apart). This trail of firetacks will lead you past an old camp site, through the forest, past a small building and to a huge abandoned building that was once the mess hall. Now this is where you must summon up all your courage and follow the trail into the building, where you'll find the cache. The end of the trail will be marked by three green stars. It's very dark, creepy and not recommended that you go alone.
Camping is allowed here at Beachwood, and the beginning coordinates are an excellent place to camp out at. Have fun!
