South Kit Hill Mine Multi-Cache

Kit Hill is part of a World Heitage Site for mining so there has to be a mining cache. This cache will introduce you to South Kit Hill Mine, an 18th century tin mine. Hopefully as you work through this cache you will see how this industry has shaped and left it's mark on Kit Hill.
The Country Park is steeped in mining history. Metals extracted included tin, silver, copper and tungsten. There were four mines on the hill of which South Kit Hill Mine was one. You will learn more from the information board. The co-ordinates will take you to your starting point at South Kit Hill Mine, where you can gather the necessary information to proceed. To move on, answer the following questions; 1. The mine first opened in 18AB 2. It closed for the first time in 18C4 3. The photo was taken in 1H74 4. The mine was mapped in F8G1 while still operating 5. The mine was worked to a depth of D0E feet You are now ready to find that cache - N50 DE.[B+D]DH W004 FC.BAF Although there are good tracks across the park they can be stony and rough and can get muddy in wet weather. (BE AWARE - there are ADDERS on Kit Hill Be careful in long grass, under vegetation & poking around in holes) This is a very popular dog walking area so can be muggle intensive. Parking - Plenty of parking on the hill. Two car parks on Summit Road and parking at the summit itself. If you want a good walk use the car park at the bottom of the incline (B3257) and do the ' Geokids Kit Climb' series as well.
