Geocache Description:

This geocache was used as a teaching tool to help guide the Den 2 cub scouts toward their next rank.

This cache was planted by the cub scouts of Den 2 (the Turtles) which are part of Pack 350 in Oregon, WI. It was planted as part of an adventure to assist in teaching the scouts about mapping, hiking, and nature conservation and preservation which will move them one step closer to their next cub scout rank.

We wanted to use a larger cache so that is can be an easy, fun adventure for families with small children who may be on their first geocaching experience. You are searching for an ammo box.

The cache is placed in the Arthur Shults Memorial Woods and Wildlife Refuge. Arthur Schults was a teacher in the area in the late 1800s and early 1900s with the rare ability to inspire students to love learning for their own sake. He also served as the principal of Oregon High School (1889-1893), Stoughton High School (1893-1902), and Evansville High School (1903-1907). After his retirement, he settled on the Frank Anderson Farm where he lived out his days and accomplished many feats as a farmer including being known as Wisconsin's leader in agriculture.

The cache is just a few steps off the marked train within the park. Please do not venture too far off the trail so as to keep the park in the best shape possible. While teaching the scouts about conservation during the planting process, we talked about "Leave No Trace Principles" which mean to respect your environment and surroundings and to keep the area in the same condition or better condition than when you entered. We would ask that you also follow these principles when searching for this cache.

Thank you to the Anderson Park Friends for allowing us to use the park for this adventure.
