Geocache Description:

This geocache highlights the history of a cemetery established in the Town of Jasper Place. Jasper Place became a Town in 1950 and amalgamated with Edmonton in 1964. There are several unique historical elements to this cemetery. Please read the long description!

This geocache highlights the history of a cemetery established in the Town of Jasper Place. It is now named Westlawn Memorial Gardens. Jasper Place became a Town in 1950 and amalgamated with Edmonton in 1964. Headstones dating back to as early as 1950 are found in section G and D. In section D, there is a significant military graveyard / Field of Honor on the far west side of the cemetery. Burials here also began in the early 1950’s. There is a veterans “wall of remembrance” erected in 2008 just a short distance from the geocache. In section B, there is a wall of names “enshrined in memories” recognizing those who in the interest of humanity, donated their bodies to the UofA for medical education & research from 1975 to present For the Christians buried here there is a statue of the Christ the Redeemer and also a bust of Martin Luther located in the middle of the cemetery. There is also monument placed by the Christian Immigration Society dedicated to their members buried in the cemetery.
