HISTORY: I don't have much information about the Deerfield one room school. It's often called West Deerfield School, records seem to use both interchangably, but West Deerfield is used more often. Many of the surnames in the older section of the cemetery can be found on the school rosters. The school was located at the corner where the cache is in 1863, the later maps show it off the corner from a few hundred feet to a quarter of a mile on the west side south of this intersection. The school was used up until the 1950's when the state started shuttering them and moving students to a modern building. Children in this area either went to Sweet School to the south or North Branch School to the east.
