Wisconsin Geocaching Association: On 11/30/2016, the WGA GeoArt was published. The 2022 Board of Directors along with BigJim60 who is the trailboss of this awesome GeoArt have made the decision to retire the WGA GeoArt starting 09/01/2023. Thank you to all that have made the trip, or multiple trips to find these 192 caches over the years.

The cache containers will be picked up and will not qualify for the WGA Cache Rescue game.

A: Vilas County was set off from Oneida County on April 12, 189A and named for William Freeman Vilas.

B: The earliest inhabitants of Vilas County were members of the Chippewa band of Native Americans; the first recorded white settler was a man named Ashman who established a trading post in Lac du Flambeau in 18B8.

C: In the 18C0s migrants from New England, primarily from Vermont and Connecticut, constructed wagon roads and trails through Vilas County including the Ontonogan Mail Trail and a military road from Fort Howard to Fort Wilkins in Copper Harbor, Michigan.
