Geocache Description:

You are standing beside one of two Steam Traction Engine Whistle Posts, erected in 1906.

The nearby information board gives the story of timber transportation as told by the last Engine driver, John Ristrom.

Can you imagine - a 13 ton steam traction engine, rattling, clanking, belching steam, and towing two or three wagons, each wagon loaded with about 7 ton of timber, and all up about 100 feet long and a total weight of about 30 ton.

At this whistle stop the engine driver had to blow the engine whistle warning everyone that they were heading to Rushworth.
This warned oncoming traffic that the engine had right-of-way.

Every second Sunday the local historic society brings out a steam traction engine that has been restored and drives it up and down the main street. It is a sight worth seeing. (They also have a steamroller too!)
