Na położonych w rezerwacie wyspach i łachach piaszczystych gniazdują śmieszki, mewy siwe, pojedyncze pary mewy srebrzystej i czarnogłowej, rybitwy rzeczne i białoczelne oraz nieliczne sieweczki rzeczne i obrożne. Ptaki tworzą wielogatunkowe kolonie liczące kilkaset i więcej gniazd. Różne gatunki gnieżdżą się tu koło siebie. Ptaki w zależności od gatunku zajmują różnego typu siedliska i miejsca w kolonii.
Rezerwat jest nie tylko doskonałym miejscem gniazdowania, ale także ważnym miejscem odpoczynku i żerowania ptaków, szczególnie w czasie wiosennych i jesiennych wędrówek. W okresie migracji można stojąc na brzegu rzeki obserwować przez lunetę: kwokacze, łęczaki, samotniki i biegusy. Ptaki odpoczywają na piasku lub żerują brodząc po płyciznach. Niejednokrotnie na piaszczystych łachach widać rybołowa, który zatrzymał się tu w trakcie wędrówki, żeby pożywić się upolowaną w Wiśle rybą. Przez cały rok, jeśli rzeka nie zamarznie, w rezerwacie żerują i odpoczywają kormorany oraz czaple, najczęściej siwe i białe.
