Reach For The Stars
This cache will take you into the Myrtle Beach Convention Center where you will find the South Carolina Hall of Fame. The posted coordinates are to the convention center entrance closest to the Hall of Fame. There are a number of "stars" included in the Hall of Fame, and this cache will focus on those who ventured off of our fair planet and into space.
The cache is located on the grounds of the Myrtle Beach Convention Center. When events are being held, there is a parking fee to enter the back parking lot with your car. During quiet times, you might be able to access the parking area without paying a fee. Some attendants might let you in if you tell them that you are geocaching, but not all are aware of the cache or geocaching. Please be mindful that the geocache is a guest here and be kind to the parking attendant if you interact with the person. The container is small and hidden from sight. Please hide it well so that muggles do not happen upon it.
This replaces an earlier Mystery Cache, GC1RTP7 "To Boldly Go" by MarsOnEarth but archived on 2/24/2016. The theme is the same but the final coordinants and the clues to determine them are different.
To obtain the final coordinates for the cache you will need information about three South Carolina Astronauts: Ronald Erwin McNair, Ph.D.; Colonel Charles M. Duke, Jr; and Charles F. Bolden, Jr. The information can be found on this cache page with a little searching. The information is also container in the Hall of Fame. In 2024, they reconfigured the hall of fame to be two large televisions on the second floor of the convention center entry way. One would have to wait there for what could be a very long time before seeing the screen for each of the astronauts. Unfortunately, enjoying the SC Hall of Fame is not what it used to be, but the geocache still gives honor two these three members of the hall of fame.
The coordinates are N 33° 42.ABC W 078° 52.DEF.
