By the Tower

Shldon is my home village and my faviroute village. It is full of history. Sheldon has traces of being a village since 1870 and just being 6 1/2 miles away from honiton train station. In 1870 John marius discribed sheldon like this "SHELDON, a parish in Honiton district, Devon; 6½ miles NNW of Honiton r. station. Post town, Cullompton. Acres, 1,681. Real property, £1,298. Pop., 180. Houses, 34. The living is a vicarage in the diocese of Exeter. Value, £250. Patron, W. Miles, Esq. The church is ancient. There is a parochial school.". If you are really intrested in history you might like to know that the churches stone was from a quarry in kent and it is a grade 2 listed building. it has a 19th century church and a 12th century tower. Sheldon was also a scary place to live in ww2 as it is moments away from dunkeswell which was the biggest american air base in the South West.

For this walk you will need wellington boots or walking boots as it can get muddy. You will also want rain coats, layers, water and a map (included in the smell point cache with marks where to stop and look for a cache). This walk usually takes roughly 30 - 1hr 30 mins depending on how fast you want to walk. Dont let children to do this on there own as it does include walking on the road except dont worry they are very quite roads.
