Palm Islands Group - Fantome (Eumilli) Traditional Cache

This cache is one of a series in the Palm Island Group.

Fantome Island was the site of a lock hospital between 1928 and 1945 and a lazaret (leprosarium) between 1939 and 1973. The heritage listed archaeological remnants on the island are representative of the responses of former Queensland governments to the public health issues for the isolation of Aboriginal & Torres Strait Islander and South Sea Islander patients and inmates.

You will need a boat and favourable winds and tides to get to the island and then you'll face a walk up a steep slope to make your way to GZ. Here you are looking for a small black Sistema containing a log book and pencil.

There are ten islands of the Greater Palm group in the jurisdiction of the Palm Island Aboriginal Shire Council:

Curacoa (Noogoo or Inoogoo), Fantome (Eumilli), Great Palm or Palm Island (Bwgcolmen), Havannah, Brisk (Culgarool), Eclipse (Garoogubbee), Esk (Soopun), Barber (Boodthean), Falcon (Carbooroo) and Fly

Plus two islands in the Hinchinbrook jurisdiction, Orpheus (Goolboddi) and Pelorus (Yanooa) or North Palm Island.

All 12 islands now have a cache to find to encourage your visit.
