Den 3 december 1973 var rymdsonden Pioneer 10 den första pionjären som tog närbilder av Jupiter. Det finns teorier att Betlehemsstjärnan faktiskt var en konjunktion av Jupiter med en annan planet eller stjärna, så passande då att Pioneer 10 hälsade på just denna tid på året.
Pioneer 10 är en rymdsond som är del av Pioneerprogrammet. Rymdsonden som sköts upp den 2 mars 1972 var den första att färdas genom asteroidbältet.
Pioneer-plaketterna är två aluminiumskivor som fästes på rymdsonderna Pioneer 10 och 11. De innehåller bildmeddelanden från mänskligheten och är tänkt som en sorts flaskpost. Plaketten beskriver bland annat sondens ursprung, men kanske finns det någon information som även leder dig till cachen.
