What a nostalgic spot from my past. This road, the abandoned part just south of here with the chain across it, and dirt gradually washing across and burying it, is the one I walked home from school on as a kid in the late 1960's, when I lived up here in Webb Canyon near the dam. This was long before the freeway, when the chain-blocked road did not disappear into the massive mound of dirt you just drove down to get here, but continued for a quarter mile in an arc to the southwest, then rose up to connect with College Way.
In high school I used this stretch of quiet road to train for a big track meet. I was a sophomore. I was trying to "break" two minutes in the half-mile. It went well.
