Geocache Description:

This geocache is for Open-water certified SCUBA divers only.  The geocache is located in 55 feet of water in Seneca Lake near the US Salt Plant in Watkins Glen, NY.   Medium Sized Cache.  Cold water temperatures vary between 37 and 55 degrees during the year.  A 7 mm wetsuit or dry suit is recommended.  Remember to bring your dive buddy.

Take a boat trip on Seneca Lake to the GPS coordinates 42.408382, -76.887616 slightly North of the salt plant and find a surface buoy that can be used to tie up your boat.  The surface buoy is tied nearby an old box car that was pushed into the lake during the early 1900's. The box car is around 30 feet deep.  The roof of the boxcar has caved in, but the brake handle and ladders on the front and back of the car are still there.

From the boxcar, swim South at a depth around 50 feet until you reach the "junkyard".  The "junkyard" has several different objects that were once part part of the surface world that now reside on the lake floor.  The cache can be found on an old wagon with cast iron wheels.

This is one of my favorite dive locations during the summer!  Enjoy the dive and Happy Geochaching!

Note: Surface buoy is removed during winter months. (October-April).
