This was a disposal site for Omex Petroleum from the 50s until the 80s and required a massive clean-up in the late 90s/early 2000s to clean up the contamination. The site remains empty to this day.
Before it was owned by Omex, there were clay quarries in the area. The disused quarries would fill with water and provide popular swimming spots for locals.
