< Kono settlement >
Kono is a small settlement and located in the northernmost edge within the area of Nakatsugawa-juku. It literally means "Children's field," that is, a small playing field easily accessible by kids near residential areas of villages.

中津川宿から落合宿までの中山道を歩きましょう。
＜子野＞
子野は、中山道沿いで中津川宿のエリアの一番北にある集落です。「子供でも遊びにいくような小さい野」という意味で、日本全国に最も多く分布する地名の一つだそうです。その由来からもわかる通り、険しい山間地ではなく開拓しやすい所につけられた地名のようです。
江戸時代末期には十二戸五十人、明治二十年代には十七戸、大正十三年には三十二戸百四十五人が住んでいた、という記録があるそうです。
