Karura Forest #70: ADF - Appearance

The cache, a small screw-capped plastic tube, is hidden under a rock just off the Tara Path which runs across the quieter northern section of the forest. GPSr accuracy at GZ was ~7m.
To reach the cache location: enter the forest at Shark's Gate (Entry Gate C) on Kiambu Road @ S 01 14.395 E 36 50.644. After parking your car, pay the entry fee then take the trail heading due north parallel to the main road, past the start of the Muhugu Trail, on over the river and up and along the Tara Path to the cache location, passing two other caches (KF#67 and KF#14) along the way. GPSr accuracy at GZ was about 7m.

It is small and 'rather dumpy' at 10 cm long and around 11g weight. Its upperparts are plain brown, with the only facial marking being an indistinct narrow eye-ring. The chin is plain pale grey, and the rest of the underparts are grey-brown with indistinct streaks. The short, straight, laterally flattened bill is black, the legs and feet are grey, the tail short and the eyes brown. Sexes are
similar, but the juvenile is spotted with buff above, and is whitish spotted with brown below.
This species is similar to the common migrant, the spotted flycatcher, Muscicapa striata, but is smaller and darker, especially on the underparts, than that species.The spotted flycatcher also has a streaked forehead, not seen on the African dusky flycatcher.
