Kentucky Veterans Cemetery West opened in 2004. The cemetery is open to the public 24 hours, seven days a week. Normal business hours are 800 to 1600 Monday through Friday, not including state holidays. Interments take place on non-holiday weekdays only. Saturdays, Sundays and holidays are reserved for families and loved ones of those interred to visit in peace and quiet.
Two and a half miles north is the Fort Campbell Memorial Park remembering 248 soldiers from Fort Campbell who perished in the Gander crash of 12 December 1985. These soldiers were returning home to the 101st Airborne Division after completing a six-month tour of duty in the Sinai with the Multinational Force and Observers (MFO).
This was placed on Veterans' Day 2016. Thanks goes out to ottieolsen who gave me a thumbs up to imitate his cache in Hays, KS.
