Rt 66 once was the lifeblood of our country. Hotels, gas stations, and restaurants dotted the path it carved from Chicago to the Pacific Ocean. Now in many places it is little more than a farm road if it exists at all. There are still lots to see along this route, especially in Mt Olive. Please take your time to see them. Enjoy our town rooted in the culture of Eastern European miners and German farmers. Mother Jones, the famous union advocate is buried here. I have lived across Rt 66 all my life. I have seen it go from busy highway to almost forgotten road. Nostalgia of the old days + interest of the young keeps the memories alive. If you are older, keep the memories alive by telling of your experiences. If you are younger, listen to the fascinating tales Rt 66 holds for many of us.
