Milford is the village where the Penalty Kick was invented, it was William McCrum who in 1890 submitted a proposal for a Penalty Kick to the Irish Football Assocation, 12 months later it was approved by the International football Assocation Board and incorporated into the laws of the game, he was a goal-keeper for Milford, a small village club that played in the first season of the Irish Championship in 1890-91. As a goal-keeper William McCrum had every opportunity to witness the way in which the sport was being corrupted by foul play, the Penalty Kick of course is the kind of penalty that only a goal-keeper could have invented.
