Geocache Description:

The railway came to this area around 1882 as a track between Woodstock, Ingersoll, Putnam, Harriestsville, Belmont and St.Thomas. The line was owned by the Credit Valley Railway which had several lines in operation from the Toronto area westward. Later in life the Credit Valley Railway was sold to the Canadian Pacific Railway.

As you visit this location to seek the geocache take a moment to look to the north and then to the south. Which local village can you see from here on a clear day? As a resident of the munipality for many years I always wondered why the station was given the name it was given. A local from Mossley was once asked why the station was named Harriestsville Station. The local's response was: "They were faster than us.".

Although the railway was built in 1882 the station was not built unril 1910. If you read the full description (here comes a hint) the geocache is located on the same side of the crossing as the station was located. Alas the station has long been gone and I do not recall ever having seen the station even as a young child..

The local station was a beehive of activity, quite literally, as queen bees along with cattle and orders from two of Canada's largest merchandisers would be received along with mail service twice a day,

I do recall a freight train many years ago which suffered a minor derailment a few hundred meters to the east of the crossing. That may have been the first time I ever photographed a train
