To the Northeast of the posted coords stands the MSU Bioeconomy Institute. At one time this was a large pharmecutical manufacturer, Parke-Davis that occupied much of the property to the east. Now all that remains is a small portion of the facility.
The MSU Bioeconomy Institute provides chemical pilot plant scale-up production and conducts sponsored research and testing for both for-profit and not-for-profit entities of all sizes. The 138,000-square-foot facility complements and extends MSU campus research that supports the emerging bioeconomy, including biofuels, bio-based specialty chemicals and biomaterials.
The Institute contains:
- more than 25,000 liters of chemical reactor capacity with centralized automatic controls, centrifuges, filters, and dryers,
- 31,000 square feet of modern laboratories to house up to 125 researchers,
- a 105-seat auditorium, a library, an atrium, and more than sixty offices.
