Since 1951 the Central Saanich Volunteer Fire Department has served and protected the citizens and property of Central Saanich. Station 2 (Mt. Newton X Rd.) built in 1979 with Station 1 (Keating X Rd.) added in 2013.
From their web page: “Central Saanich Volunteer Fire Department has 45 active members. Fire practice is held every Monday night starting at 7:30 pm. The Training Officer schedules exercises to keep members current in all aspects of firefighting and medical aid. The Department is active in the First Responder Program. Members are certified to First Responder Level III with Spinal and AED endorsements.”
They provide emergency and winter health preparedness, wildfire protection and supply tsunami information. Home burning info and fire inspections, fire prevention and safety, with smoke alarm installation advice all provided.
Ask around: many cachers are current or retired fire fighters!
This cache is located in a park adjacent to Station 1. It was provided by the volunteer efforts of the fire fighters for the use of the general public.
