Geocache Description:

This is the third of a series of caches placed within Sugar Hollow Park to educate others about environmental education

and conservation of natural resources. The main purpose of this series is to use technology to get people away from

technology! Parking is free. Please obey Sugar Hollow Park rules and hours! An exception has been allowed by Groundspeak.

Eastern White Pine trees:

 Usually grow 100 ft. tall and can be 4 ft. in diameter

 Branches are in “whorls”

 Each whorl represents 1 year’s growth – a narrow whorl means it was not a good year and the tree encountered

stressors (drought, fire, etc.); a wide whorl means it was a good growing year – it got enough water, sunlight,

space and nutrients.

 Wood from EWP trees is used for furniture and lumber

 Old dead “snag” trees make good habitats for squirrels, woodpeckers, and other animals
