Eastern White Pine trees:
Usually grow 100 ft. tall and can be 4 ft. in diameter
Branches are in “whorls”
Each whorl represents 1 year’s growth – a narrow whorl means it was not a good year and the tree encountered
stressors (drought, fire, etc.); a wide whorl means it was a good growing year – it got enough water, sunlight,
space and nutrients.
Wood from EWP trees is used for furniture and lumber
Old dead “snag” trees make good habitats for squirrels, woodpeckers, and other animals
