Where: An open patch of grass just beyond the Haytor Visitor Centre, Haytor Vale, Newton Abbot TQ13 9XT. Allow about an hour to travel there from the Mega camp site. The visitor centre is on your left once the trees give way to open moorland.
When: From 11am to 2pm on Tuesday 1st August.
Why: Meet the Devon Mega committee and Dartmoor National Park Rangers, learn about Dartmoor past and present, enjoy a picnic, socialise with geocaching friends, make new geocaching friends, swap trackables all in beautiful surroundings.
What to bring: A chair if you would like to sit down during the event and something to eat. If you have not brought lunch you will be able to purchase something from the on site concessions or nearby cafes.
Parking: The middle car park, 500m beyond the nearby Visitor Centre has been allocated for attendees of this event. Payment can be made on the day using the donation cairn on site.
After the event: Once the event is finished you will be in the midst of one of Britain's great wildernesses. If you plan to walk in the area you will find that there are six different types of geocache within a couple of miles of the event and a few thousand geocaches within the park boundary. The National Park Authority are very supportive of geocaching and as such you will be spoilt for choice.
All geocachers are welcome to attend this event irrespective of whether they are attending the Mega Event itself or, staying on the camp site at Bicton. Please car share where possible.
If you plan to head to more remote parts of the moor we strongly recommend you let someone know where you are going and what time you expect to return. Wear stout footwear even if the weather is dry and take a map and compass with you. The weather can change very rapidly on Dartmoor so all conditions should be accounted for.
