La Vagaloggia
A Firenze chi non poteva permettersi la villeggiatura, ovvero la maggioranza della popolazione, si accontentava di fare il bagno in Arno. Lungo il fiume c'erano dei veri e propri stabilimenti balneari. Uno si trovava nella zona del Prato, fuori della Porticciola, vicino ai mulini: il famoso e frequentato bagno pubblico della Vagaloggia. Era fornito di uno spogliatoio e di un guardaroba a pagamento, e diviso in due da una cancellata di ferro: uomini da una parte, donne dall'altra, con tanto di dipendenti pagati dal governo e addetti all'assistenza dei bagnanti e delle bagnanti. La porticciola venne distrutta nel 1855, dopo tre secoli di onorato servizio, per far passare il Lungarno Nuovo, ora Lungarno Vespucci. La cache è nascosta dove prima c'era la porticciola.
In Florence who hadn’t enough money for the Holydays, as a matter of fact the majority of the people, was happy to take a bath in the Arno River. Along the river there were true beach resorts. One was in the Prato district, just out of the old pedestrian gate (now destroyed), near the mills: the famous and crowded public bath of Vagaloggia. There were rest rooms and wardrobes upon payment, divided in two parts: ladies and gentlemen were separated by an iron fence. Personnel payed by the Government was charged of surveillance and assistance of the customers. The gate was destroyed in 1855 to allow the construction of the new road on the riverside, the actual Lungarno Vespucci. The cache is hidden where there was the gate.
