Geocache Description:

Nano magnetic cache on top of Eparceion Hill in Pyrgos.

The first cache in what we hope to become a series in Pyrgos. We really love our town and we try to make the best out of it as it has recently been through hardship. We hope we will have the chance to get the geocaching community to know the beauties of Pyrgos and improve our homeland.

Eparcheion is a nice park on top of a hill in the town centre. The place is considered to be the spot where the Tower of Tsernotas (a local landlord in the 1700s) was built (Pyrgos = tower in Greek). The hill offers a wide and amazing view of the surroundimg area, that's why it was picked as the landlord's residence. When the Tower was demolished, the ruins where used for the erection of St. Nicholas' Cathedral which lies nerby (today under massive renovation).

Near the cache you can find a great monument dedicated to the victims of WWII and a nice playground. The park is a meeting point for the locals and a great spot to relax and enjoy the view.

On the west side of the hill you may also admire the view of Port Katakolon, regularly visited by large cruiseliners.

The GZ offers a view of the east side of the town with St. Athanasios church, designed by Ernst Ziller.
