Geocache Description:

This geocache is of significant historical interest. It is one of many way-markers along the route traveled by Sir Percy FitzPatrick and his faithful dog, Jock.

'Jock of the Bushveld' is a book written by Percy FitzPatrick, a transport rider, about his adventures with Jock, a Staffordshire Bull terrier. It takes place in the Lowveld during the time of the gold rush in the 1880's and is well worthwhile reading.

This Jock plaque is attached to the outside wall of Diggers Retreat (previously known as the Noordkaap Hotel) about 35 meters away. The current traffic conditions on the R38 towards Kaapmuiden, do not allow a for a way-marker to be where the actual Old Tree used to be.

If you do enter the pub of Diggers Retreat, look at the fascinating old paintings on the walls.
