Geocache Description:

The cache is not at the posted coordinates.

Assume N 51 and W 002 Degrees.

As it is Thanksgiving Day in the USA, I had the urge to create this simple little puzzle cache.

This cache is called “Alice’s Restaurant,” and it’s about Alice, and the Restaurant, but “Alice’s Restaurant” is not the name of the restaurant. That’s just the name of the cache, and that’s why I call the cache “Alice’s Restaurant.”

You see, this song is about Thanksgiving. Well, it's not just about Thanksgiving, it's also about Alice. And some other stuff. But the crime takes place on Thanksgiving. And it occurred in Massachusetts, which is where I hail from. More or less. But it's not about me. It's about Alice. And the Restaurant. And other stuff.

The radio station I listened to when I lived in Massachusetts had a tradition. They would play this song every Thanksgiving. And you might think, that's nice, but so what. Well, it was probably the only time of the year they would play the song. Why is that? Because, it is commercial radio. And they don't like long songs. They would play the original version of the song, which is just over 18 minutes long. Though there are longer versions. The song is based on a true story which happened to Arlo Guthrie on Thanksgiving day in November 1965, when he was 18 years old. The subsequent events are also based on his real experience.

There has also been speculation about the Nixon "Watergate" tapes and the song. A copy of Guthrie's Alice's Restaurant LP was found in the Nixon library. Was it a coincidence that both the title track and the infamous gap in the Nixon tapes were "exactly 18 minutes and 20 seconds long"?

I love the song. It makes me laugh every time I hear it, though there is a serious side to it. And I'd like you to listen to it. That is why I created this cache. Now I'm sure you can find more complicated ways to get the coordinates which avoid you listening to the song. But if you listen to the song, I guarantee you that 18 minutes later, you will have the coordinates. And hopefully enjoyed the song.
