Geocache Description:

This Multi-cache takes you on a tour of Tetbury to show that there is more to the town than antique shops! The route will take you past a number of existing geocaches and some new ones I have set so that people who have previously "cached out" Tetbury will have more to tempt them back.

The listed coordinates are for a free car park on the edge of the town centre where this walk starts. Please take note of the signs claiming that the car park gates are locked between 8pm and 7am. I have never seen them closed but wouldn't want anybody to be caught out if they ever are!

It is a walk of around 2.5miles and there are plenty of places to stop off for refreshments in the town. You shouldn't meet any serious mud on the walk and most of it is on tarmac.

To start the walk go from the car park to the front of the Goods Shed and follow the signposts for "Gumstool Hill" then "Chipping Steps". This will take you across Millennium Green at the bottom of Gumstool Hill (my dentist used to be at the top of this hill - which I thought appropriate!). The annual Woolsack Races are held up and down this 1 in 4 steep hill on the last bank holiday Monday in May. Probably not a good day for attempting this geocache due to the throngs who come to watch strange people racing up and down hills carrying a wool sack but it is an event well worth coming to Tetbury for. Full details are available at www.tetburywoolsack.co.uk

This is also the finish line of yet another local custom, the annual Tetbury Wacky Races, where like minded people race downhill from the Chipping car park in assorted home made pedal car constructions. This event has become so popular that it has almost outgrown the current route. It is run by the Tetbury Lions and they are currently reviewing the options for 2017. If you are thinking of attending look for updates on www.tetburywackyraces.co.uk

Along the way there are a number of signs with references to The Feoffees - mostly telling people things that they must not do! If you want to learn more about these apparently all powerful beings and other interesting things about Tetbury's history (e.g. why does a town a long way from the sea have dolphins in its crest?) I would recommend that you stop off in the Heritage centre in St Mary's Church which is close to your route. Alternatively you could look it up on line but that would be far less fun!

The cache is at N51 3(A+3).(D-C) E/2 G/2 W002 0(H+C).(I-1) J (K-L/2)

The final location is a popular dog walking route so watch out for muggles!

Even though I left a pencil in the cache when I placed it they do have a habit of straying so it is probably advisable to bring your own!

Congratulations to graham&linda on the FTF - and yes you were right on the side, thanks for the heads up and it has now been corrected.
