Geocache Description:

A cache in the Geocaching Olympics series of caches.

This time, the sport is track cycling. Note that you will not find the cache at the posted coordinates, but the cache is only a short walk away.

The provided coordinates will lead you to a large multi-purpose sports and recreation ground, which boasts a memorial garden, small playground, football oval. Most relevant to this cache, however, is the 450m bitumen velodrome track which features around the outside of the oval.

This surface differs from an Olympic track, in that the Olympics track is made of wood, and similarly, the outside track is also longer than the Olympics one.

This track is available for free public use, however, the grounds are home to various sporting clubs, and the public is not permitted to use the track or grounds whilst these clubs are training. However, if somebody is using the track, there is plenty of space and benches reserved for spectators. So, even if you don't like to cycle, you can watch cyclists instead, having a turn on the track.

As a point of interest, there is also another outdoor velodrome track on Fifth Ave in Woodville Gardens, however this track is permanently closed to the public, as the surface is no longer suitable for riding on. The track is still there though, for viewing purposes only.

Adelaide also boasts an indoor velodrome track, which is very similar to the Olympics track, if not the same. The track is similar to an Olympics track, in that is made of softwood, is 250m in length, and has a 43 degree angle. This angle allows for riders to overtake and gain speed as they ride up and down the angled track, it can be quite a thrill to watch.

This velodrome is located at Gepps Cross, and it was built and opened in 1993. It is still used today, as a training venue for professional cyclists. Occasionally, the velodrome is also opened to the public, to watch cyclists train, or compete, and there are sometimes opportunities for the public to ride on the track.

There is space for 2,000 seated spectators and 1,000 standing spectators.

In the centre of the track, is what is known as an infield, an area which can be configured to facilitate small indoor sports. This field is a total of 2067m2.

Now that you know more about track cycling, it's time to determine the final coordinates. In order to do so, I have created a humorous and extremely easy Olympic track cycling trivia quiz for your pleasure. You simply need to work out which answer is the correct one, and the number next to it, is the one you substitute in for the letter of that question. For example, if the correct answer to question A has number 7 next to it , that would be the number you substitute in the coordinates, in place of the letter A.

The quiz is as follows...
A. Ominum refers to...
1. An event where riders compete in six different disciplines, and the winner is the athlete who receives the most points from attempting these disciplines.
2. The brand of energy pills which the cyclists use
3. One of the elements on the periodic table of elements
4. I don't know this answer, ask me something else.

B. The Keirin refers to...
1. The time at which a man named Keiren, stands in the middle of the track, to sing the National Anthem
2. An event where the pace of the riders is set by a small motorised bike at the front of the riders, and overtaking this bike is forbidden, until the last 700m, where it leaves the track, and cyclists pedal as fast as possible to the finish.
3. The name of the National Anthem for Greece
4. A food which athletes eat, to give them more energy

C. The country which has won the most medals in total, since the Olympics first began, for track cycling is...
1. USA
2. Greece
3. Great Britain
4. Australia

D. An attack in track cycling is when...
1. The coach becomes angry with the athletes, so throws a stuffed animal at them
2. When an athlete rides so hard, that they collapse on the floor
3. This question is too hard
4. When a cyclist speeds up suddenly and rapidly, in order to overtake the other cyclists

E. The total amount of athletes who participated in the Rio 2016 track cycling event was...
5. 193
6. 70
7. 293
8. 156

F. The year in which track cycling made its debut in the Olympics was...
5. 2000
6. 1896
7. 1876
8. 1923

G. The Olympics cycling track is made of...?
5. Plaster
6. Fibreglass
7. Tempered Glass
8. Softwood

H. Cyclists need to be careful when riding on a cycling track, because...
6. The other cyclists using the track, will try to push each other off their bike
7. The track is steep, and cyclists are afraid of heights
8. The track is very slippery, particularly when wet
9. There are no brakes on the bike, and so it can sometimes be difficult to stop, if not done properly. This also means that it can be easy to slide down the sloped track, unintentionally.

Now substitute these answers into the below coordinates, to receive the final coordinates:
S34 EG.HDA E138 CC. GBF

The cache is a small 120mL container, with enough room for small swaps, path tags, geocoins, tracker bugs. The cache, when placed, contained logbook and pencils.

Now, hop on your bike and enjoy :)
