Physics Puzzle #7 Mystery Cache

This cache has been archived.

Phyzicist: After threatening to put this one to rest, today was the day! I was out doing maintenance on some other caches and thought I would stop here on my way and pick up the container.

Geocache Description:

This is the seventh of a series of nine puzzles based on Kinematics or the study of motion.

Congratulations to denjoa for FTF honours.

This series of caches is reaching the end of its run.

I will be archiving them in August 2022

It is recommended, but not necessary, that you complete the puzzles in order as each puzzle will have an increasing level of difficulty. The puzzles in the series are

Physics Puzzle #1 (GC6XBGC)

Physics Puzzle #2 (GC6XDN0)

Physics Puzzle #3 (GC6XDXM)

Physics Puzzle #4 (GC6XK5Q)

Physics Puzzle #5 (GC6XMW4)

Physics Puzzle #6 (GC6XP3J)

Physics Puzzle #7 (GC6XXY3)

Physics Puzzle #8 (GC6XY1H)

Physics Puzzle #9 (GC6XY50)

The Lesson

For this puzzle, the formula that you are given is missing acceleration. As before when you are given three of the variables, you can calculate the remaining two. You will be working with v1, v2, t, and d.

Example using this formula:

A race car starts from rest and is accelerated uniformly to 41 m/s in 8.0 s. What distance does the car travel?

The car travels a distance of 164 m.

The Puzzle

Read each of the following problems and solve as indicated. Enter the values in the space provided.

A race car travelling at 45 m/s is uniformly slowed to a velocity of 23 m/s over an 11 s interval. What distance is covered during this time?

___ ___ ___ (A B C)

A freight train is uniformly accelerated from 40 km/h to 64 km/h in a time of 152 s. How far does the train travel during this time? Round to the nearest metre.

___ ___ ___ ___ (D E F G)

A rocket travelling at 98 m/s is accelerated uniformly over a distance of 2273 m in a 15 s interval. What is the new speed of the rocket? Round your answer to the nearest m/s.

___ ___ ___ (H J K)

A = __ B = __ C = __ D = __ E = __ F = __ G = __ H = __ J = __ K = __

The cache can be found at N 44° a b.c d e’ and W 078° f g.h j k

Use your answers from above to solve for the lower case letters below. There is no connection between the upper case letters above and the lower case letters here.

a = A√(C x D): _____ b = A + D: _____; c = BJ: _____;

d = B + E: _____; e = √(F) + K: _____; f = B - F + G: _____;

g = C - G + H: _____; h = (A)(B) - (A)(K): _____.

j = (C + G) ÷ D: _____; k = A + B - G: _____.

The cache is at: N 44° __ __ . __ __ __ ' and W 078° __ __ . __ __ __'

HTML is limited for Mathematical operators. For "a" that is the Ath root of (C x D).
